We are focused on building domain systems that are not part of the ICANN system. We think that the most important thing for .zil and .crypto is to have customers and apps that use these systems. That is what makes them successful, and it’s also what prevents other legitimate organizations from launching the same system. We of course wouldn’t launch a domain name system that collides with a domain system on traditional DNS.
ICANN applications aren’t expected to be open until 2022, but we do intend to apply for both of our extensions.
Ultimately however, we think that legitimate use and acceptance within apps is the most important thing. And getting support or approval from ICANN is not necessary for .zil and .crypto to succeed.
